This is a small tour of downtown Reno, based around the Virginia Street Bridge. You are taken back to the 1940's, a glimpse into the original Reno. The starting location is the Courthouse, then down along the river to the Virginia Street Bridge, then finally down Virginia Street to the Reno Arch. Erase your version of Reno from your memory, and step into the Biggest Little City, Sin City, of the 1940's.

  3. Grrr, there was a pretty bad typo in my comment.

Your grandmother is adorable! I feel like with this piece you were able to do something most us could not (due to lack of such a long family history with Reno). Being from Vegas I feel like because of the size difference many long-time residents of Reno tend to know much more about the history of Reno than long-time residents of Las Vegas. It seems to be passed on much better here because Las Vegas's size means most people are not really directly in contact with the strip anymore on a day to day basis while here in Reno a lot of locals are still actively living and spending there time in downtown and midtown Reno. It's really cool to me. Your audio was also very well done, your grandmother always stayed at a clear and audible level and the ambient noise and music never overclouded her. Good Job!

  4. I loved your grandma and her narration in your audio tour. Her descriptions of old Reno and her experiences were well done and clear, which allowed me to easily picture what she was talking about. The music you picked for the background was also very fun to listen to. Awesome work!

  5. Chohnny! First of all, I just wanna say that I wish I could just hug your grandmother. She is so sweet! Your grandmother is a great narrator. She really incorporated a lot of imagery that made it easy to visualize what downtown Reno was like a long time ago. I love how it wasn't just information about downtown Reno. There is a lot of personality that really made me connect with your grandmother. Great balance of music and narration. It really brought me back to when downtown was pretty much nothing.

  6. Your grandma is seriously the cutest and I'm really glad you didn't edit out the intro portion where she was laughing. You really went the extra mile with your mini photo albums and the stories about old time Reno were great to learn about.

    Thanks!!

  7. This was an interesting tour to be on, for the fact that I was not alive during this time. Everything I know about this time is from film, pictures, and word of mouth. And so having someone who was really there trying to describe their experience forces the mind to imagine. Her experience and my imagination will clearly differ - but it is a way to create a new world, even in your own mind.

  8. What I loved about your work was the depiction of time that was present. It was magnificent to walk through the heart of the city and be forced to envision the world that was present in the 1940’s; whether buildings or actors, it truly placed a participant into another time and forced them to perceive the world that we know today a little differently. One of the things that I loved especially was how the conversation between the both of you at the beginning was very natural and as the dialogue commenced, the sound became incredibly crisp. I felt this transition had redirected my attention from the sensation of reminiscing over the space, to really being able to see it.

  9. It is pretty obvious that your grandmother won us all over. Her heartfelt descriptions of downtown were really touching and painted a very different picture than the state that area is in now. You had great intuition choosing to have her narrate this tour. The music selections were top notch as well.

  10. I would just like to give your grandma the much deserved 'tip of the hat'. I loved the idea and above all the musical choices. It was really entertaining trying to imagine downtown through her eyes. Very well done.

  11. Your grandmother is so charming! I'm really glad you got her to be the guide for your tour. I love anything to do with history, so I particularly enjoyed your tour. The way your grandmother described her memories of Reno really lifted my spirits, and the music you chose was very fitting too.

  12. Yes, grandmothers are wonderful people to have in our lives, mine would be 101 today, had she not died a few years ago! Your grandmother's voice and tour of Reno was very successful and interesting. Historically, the recording can be treasured by you and maybe submitted to the historical society?
